Presence is not given. It is negotiated, layered over, stripped back, reasserted under pressure. The heat of being seen and not known. Present in a room, vivid even, and still the distance holds.
These flowers don’t wilt. They burn, press upward, assert themselves against the weight above. The darkness doesn’t crush them but it doesn’t receive them either. They exist in the gap between witness and contact, between someone there and someone truly there.
Below, the cold white. Above, the indifferent mass. And in between, this ferocious pink aliveness that refuses to be enough to close the distance.
Someone there. The reassurance that has to keep being made because it keeps being threatened.
