Warmth of primeval mud 2026

Warmth of primeval mud 2026 – 29,7 x 21cm, charcoal on paper

Before the flower, this. The original tangle, the pre-form, descending from a mass so dense it absorbs light. What hangs below it is not yet anything, not root, not bloom, not fauna, not flora, but the condition from which all of these will eventually separate themselves out.

The mud is warm. That is the detail the title insists on. Not hostile, not inert, generative, the slow heat of becoming, older than any of the forms it will eventually produce.

Everything begins here, in the undifferentiated dark.
