Memory doesn’t hold the detail. It holds the atmosphere, the soft press of forms against the inside of the mind, botanical, barely there, more felt than seen.

The single red holds its heat against the fading. Everything else has gone cool, translucent, the flowers becoming the idea of flowers, the way youth becomes the idea of youth: present enough to move you, too far to touch.
