What they said was a masterclass in gaslighting. What they DIDN’T say reveals the biggest asset-stripping operation in modern British history.
The Petition That Rattled the Cage
When I submitted petition 729478 demanding transparency and accountability for the UK’s so-called “Industrial Strategy Zones” (the new branding for Freeports and Investment Zones), they expected pushback. What I got on 28 November 2025 was something far more sinister: a government response so drenched in doublespeak it could win awards for Orwellian prose.
The petition asked two simple things:
- Release data on governance, funding and operations
- Conduct an independent review to assess whether these zones deliver value or just displace existing jobs
The government’s response? “We don’t believe a further independent review is required.”
Let that sink in. £560 million of public money disappeared into one freeport alone. And they don’t think we need to look into it.
