The brain of the two sounds 2026

The brain of the two sounds 2026 – 41 x 35cm, acrylic, spray paint, pencil on canvas

The border runs diagonally, cutting across whatever was there before, indifferent to the forms that now must exist in relation to it rather than independently of it.

On one side, the orange field, flat and warm and total, the heat of a condition that doesn’t explain itself. On the other, something is being worked out, peeled back, pencilled over, a single form undergoing transformation in a space that is still being decided, still provisional, still open to revision.

The flowers run parallel to the wall on both sides, neither contained nor freed by it, simply continuing in the space available, which is what they always do. The division changes their context without changing their nature.

Two sounds, one brain, the Beckett title names the condition of holding two things simultaneously that don’t resolve into each other, the orange and the blue, the flat and the perspectival, the decided and the still-being-decided. The brain that contains both without forcing a choice between them.
