Countries such as Chile, Uruguay, and Brazil previously enjoyed an egalitarian system of governance before the US Government, and the Chicago School of libertarian economists were parachuted in to ‘reform’ their tax systems and commercial policies. The impact saw wage decreases of up to 28%, which forced people into begging on the streets in 1973. This imposition of neoliberal Chicago School economics was run by US backed military governments, turning entire countries into laissez-faire laboratories aimed at separating the lower classes from the middle classes.
