Special Economic Zones, Freeports, Free cities come with social costs, the core of which involves rampant deregulation that removes the ‘obstacle of democracy’. For disaster capitalists working hand in hand with governments willing to let go of democracy, the preferred corporate political model replaces the social model of governance. Inside the zones, relaxed laws mean relaxed enforcement of those laws, HR, unions, minimum wages, strikes/protests, and dissent are all prohibited. Private security is ring-fenced with the zone, this is not designed to protect the public, it is designed for corporations to protect themselves and their interests. As each zone absorbs public services surrounding economies will have no choice but to capitulate to the aggressive competitive drives from big business. Zone fever will privatise the entire UK.
