Milton Friedman was an American economist whose research became foundational to the Chicago School of Economics and heavily influenced Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in the 1980’s, he stated that ‘Capitalism did not need democracy to work, the path to success led through the zone, unfortunately, democracy has elements which tend to destroy economic freedom’. Deregulated SEZs across the globe bypass democracy to ensure capital accumulation is maximised with minimum taxation and redistribution of profits that would otherwise contribute to social and economic stability in society.
