@NoJusticeMTG 2026 – 19 x 27,5cm pencil on paper
Helena/@NoJusticeMTG is a British political commentator and content creator associated with Novara Media
My drawing, like others in this series holds that sense of a voice fighting to be heard within an overwhelming system, specifically about the position of independent left content creators, people like Helena who are doing the work of political education and analysis outside (or against) mainstream channels, operating with minimal resources compared to well-funded propaganda machines.
The fragmentation in the drawing takes on additional meaning in that context. Independent creators are constantly battling the algorithm, dealing with demonetization, shadow-banning, the exhausting labour of building an audience while swimming against the current of platform logic that favors either anodyne centrist content or well-funded right-wing outrage. The explosive scribbled chaos to the left of her head starts to resemble the noise she and many dissenting voices like hers are competing against. The interference pattern of a platform that doesn’t want her message amplified.
The relative clarity of her face against the dissolving body and chaotic surroundings emphasises the person is present, the commitment is visible, but the infrastructure, the material conditions for being heard is unstable, fragmentary, precarious. The pencil medium suits this perfectly: quick, immediate, cheap, unglamorous, the aesthetic equivalent of bootstrap independent media production.
