YouTuber XIII 2026 – 53 x 74cm, oil, acrylic, spray paint on canvas

This painting has undergone several reworkings, it’s become almost entirely white, a near-total whiteout with traces of previous chaos showing through. The bright red frame now reads as emergency containment around erasure, around blankness, around absence.

The white isn’t pristine, you can see the archaeology beneath it. Palimpsest taken to an extreme: not just layers visible but layers almost entirely obscured, almost erased but not quite. The ghost of the previous painting haunts this surface.

The small inset rectangle in the lower right with its figure in blue, the only clear representational element, becomes the sole anchor point, the only legible content in this field of near-erasure. Tiny, it gains disproportionate weight. A nested failure, even the backup feed is nearly lost.

This isn’t peaceful white, it’s catastrophic white, the white of overexposure, of signal blown out, of information so overloaded it becomes blank. What clarity looks like after collapse: not resolution but suppression, not peace but exhaustion.

This connects to democracy being hollowed out, to the lack of discussion around zones of exception. This blankness is itself an emergency, the absence is the crisis, not a solution to it. Using simplicity to register excess, letting the aftermath speak rather than the event itself.
