New needles turning grey 2026

New needles turning grey 2026 – 40 x 30cm, acrylic on canvas

Not covered. Changing. The distinction is everything.

The grey is coming from within the process itself, the colours losing their certainty gradually, forms becoming translucent, half-present, caught mid-transformation between what they were and what they’re becoming.

This is the harder thing to witness. Erasure by intent you can name and resist. This is something else, the slow shift in conditions that makes certain forms of life no longer quite viable, the almost imperceptible change that you only recognise when you compare what’s here now to what was here before.

The pink ground still holds its warmth underneath. The yellow and red and blue persist at the edges of the grey, evidence of what the colours were before the turning began. Not gone. Going.
