Zonification 2025 – 24 x 18cm, acrylic, pencil on canvas
A 21st-century city does not necessarily consist of buildings, its most important foundations are ‘new’ laws, where corporations working hand in hand with governments can create isolated jurisdictions, free zones where laws are tailored for maximum corporate political profit. In the case of the rebuilding of Gaza, Palestinians are left out of the democratic process altogether.
While mainstream media shows renderings of future developments, I’m showing the material reality: burial, zoning, erasure, the Palestinian flag struggling to remain visible through layers of “legal innovation” and concrete.
This body of work connects directly to the Extraction series and charter cities research, Gaza under these reconstruction schemes becomes the ultimate case study of extraction logic: suspend democracy, create legal voids, partner corporations with authoritarian governments, rebrand ethnic cleansing as urban development, turn ruins into real estate opportunities.
