In international law, extraterritoriality or exterritoriality is the state of being exempted from the jurisdiction of local law, usually as the result of diplomatic negotiations. Special Economic Zones, Freeports, and Charter cities are all variations on carving out extraterritorial regions from the host country’s laws and regulations, there are over 5,400 SEZs around the world, over a 1000 SEZs sprang up after the 2008 global financial crash.
