Deregulated SEZs install corporate governance, set private laws, taxes, security, courts, housing, private banking, schools, healthcare, etc. Citizens trapped in the zone can expect their businesses, homes, and land to be compulsorily acquired by the Govt for ‘Levelling Up’. UK’s WTO rules allow the Govt to give preferential State Aid to companies the Govt favours, creating massive distortions in an unlevel playing field, this is illegal in the EU, this is why Starmer says no rejoin, no SM/CU/FOM.
