All day and night 2026

All day and night 2026 – 65 x 50cm, acrylic on canvas

Roots coming through, pushing across borders, the personal is political.

It doesn’t stop. Not for darkness, not for the hour when everything is supposed to be still. The roots push down through whatever is in the way, the forms occupy their intervals, the colour insists on its variety without asking what time it is.

This is the condition the title names, not urgency exactly, but continuance. The biological fact of processes that have no off switch, that proceed through the diagonal lines and between them and beneath them, indifferent to the systems laid across their path.

All day. And night. The phrase refuses the consolation of rest, of the pause in which things might be different. But it also refuses the pessimism, because what continues all day and night is not suffering but growth, not endurance but the quiet, unstoppable fact of living things doing what living things do, in the dark as readily as the light, rooted in something the lines were never going to reach.
