And I not a wrinkle not one 2026

And I not a wrinkle not one 2026 – approx 55 x 35 x 36cm, plaster, jute, wire, spray paint, mdf

This sculpture knows it has an inside.

The title, And I Not a Wrinkle Not One, from Beckett, the observation of one’s own unchanged surface in the face of everything that has occurred, the skin that shows nothing of what has passed through it. The plaster surface of the sculpture is similarly unmarked in its whiteness, the jute and wire interior visible through the void, the structural logic exposed, but the outer surface presenting itself without the geological carbonisation of the earlier pieces.

The yellow plinth, the series’ recurring solar yellow applied now to the supporting structure, the colour of sunflowers and globes and the light left on in empty rooms descending through the MDF from warm gold at the top to white at the base, gives the sculpture a sun to sit on, or a ground that radiates rather than absorbs. The companion to the blue sky plinth: one nocturnal, one solar, the two sculptures a pair.

The sculpture above it is the most architecturally resolved of the plaster and jute works, a void at its centre, deliberately formed, the surrounding material built up to frame the opening rather than simply accumulating around it. The jute and wire structure is visible through the aperture, the internal logic exposed at the point where the outer surface opens. What the plaster presents as unmarked, white, unlined, not a wrinkle not one, the void reveals as structured, built, the interior organised around the opening that makes it visible.
