Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a catch-all term for technologies that are meant to reduce emissions by capturing and storing them underground. Fossil fuel companies and some governments would like you to think it means we can tackle climate change whilst continuing to drill for more oil and gas.
For fossil fuel companies carbon capture is a get-out-of-jail-free card for continued oil and gas production, and a nifty distraction from cleaner, safer, and better energy options.
Green washing is a key tactic for fossil fuel companies to absolve themselves of accountability to the public concerns over climate change, this involves a toatl abdication of corporations duty of responsibility to preventing the adverse effects of rapidly increasing climate destruction.
Special Economic Zones figure heavily in the ongoing attacks on the environment by carving out extraterritorial regions of a host country, they come with relaxed laws and (de)regulations in order to ‘boost the ailing economies of developing countries’, this is another lie, corporations are working with governments to fragment nations into patchworks works of corporate sovereignties, these zones serve to erode what’s left of the public sector, including public services and councils by allowing private equity and fossil fuel companies to ‘self- regulate’ in the zones. Land grabbing, tax evasion, private banking, compulsory purchase orders, modern day slavery are just some of the impacts deregulated zones are known for.
